Where Art Meets Heart in Greyton
The Dream of Mulberry
Mulberry, a quaint and vibrant gallery and gift shop nestled in the heart of Greyton, South Africa, has a unique origin story that speaks to the community spirit and creative energy that fuels this special place. It all began with three close friends sharing a dream over a casual chat at their favorite local pub. They envisioned a space where they could not only exhibit their own artistic creations but also curate a collection of beautiful items that they themselves would love to own, gift, and receive.

Serendipity struck when a shop space became available just days later. Taking it as a sign from fate, they seized the opportunity, signed the lease, and embarked on their journey. Inspired by the deep blue of the Maanskyn (moonlight) store next door, they set out to find a color as dramatic and eye-catching. It didn't take long for them to be drawn to the vivid hue reminiscent of Mulberry juice on their fingers, giving birth to both the color and the name of their gallery – Mulberry Gallery and Gifts.
Community, Creativity, and Empowerment
A Community Uplifted Through The Power of Creativity
At Mulberry, our commitment extends far beyond creating beautiful things; it's rooted in nurturing our community. Every item adorning our shop, from exquisite art to meticulously crafted clothing like our handmade kimonos, is a testament to our dedication.

One heartwarming example is the story of two remarkable women who, alongside their beloved dog Uzzy, have been profoundly touched by Mulberry's presence. These talented women had faced years of unemployment, struggling to make ends meet by creating school tracksuits and similar items. Mulberry provided them with an opportunity to not only showcase their skills but also embark on a transformative journey.

When we first met Uzzy, he was a frail and ailing pup, his spirit broken by the harsh realities of life. Determined to make a difference, Mulberry's founders took it upon themselves to nurse Uzzy back to health. Today, he is a testament to resilience and love, thriving in a supportive and caring environment. The ripple effect of this kindness extends to our local community, particularly single-parent families who have found new employment opportunities through Mulberry.
Uplifting Hands and Hearts
We've partnered with an exceptional mentor—a skilled tailor and machine technician—who guides our team in upskilling their craftsmanship. Collaborating closely with our skilled seamstresses, we ensure that each kimono in our store is born from care and love. This commitment to growth and excellence ensures that our garments are meticulously made, adhering to the highest international standards. Each piece is akin to a work of art, designed to be cherished for a lifetime.
Crafting Beauty Sustainably
Our materials are sourced from various corners of the globe, including the vibrant colors of Mauritius and the rich textures of Ethiopia. We embrace sustainability by incorporating recycled fabrics and offer a diverse range of natural fibers such as silk, cotton, and viscose. To keep our offerings accessible, we also include high-quality polyester blends obtained at reasonable prices. This approach benefits not only our customers but also our skilled seamstresses, who are compensated per item produced, ensuring that their hard work is duly rewarded.
Elegance in Every Detail
In our charming town of Greyton, our candles are handcrafted by a local artisan, utilizing soya wax and natural essences for a luxurious and sensory experience. These candles, both elegant décor and indulgent massage tools, reflect our commitment to sustainability. Presented in carefully selected containers, often sourced from our travels, flea markets, or thrift shops, we add no extra charge for the container itself, marking up only the wax. Once enjoyed, customers can return the containers for refilling with scents like vanilla, rose, and fig.

Our dedication to art continues with unique greeting cards and collaboration with renowned artist Kim Black, resulting in exquisite carpets that transcend floor coverings to become genuine pieces of art. These carpets, available in various sizes and thoughtfully priced, add sophistication to any interior. Completing our collection are handmade ceramics—elegant, hand-painted platters, and plates featuring Greyton's scenes, flora, fauna, and charming charm, all brought to life in the traditional Delft blue style. With prices ranging from R300 to R600 per item, these unique pieces make thoughtful gifts and cherished additions to your home. At Mulberry, we nurture creativity, support our community, and deliver exceptional products, inviting you to be part of our inspiring journey.
